Accommodation at Pahalgam: The pilgrims who are choosing to trek from Pahalgam would have to stay at pilgrimage camps. The Jammu and Kashmir Government has set up its own information and guidance department which keeps on making necessary announcements. The government officials present there takes care of the entire management and organization of camps. Perched at the distance of 1.5 km from Pahalgam, the pilgrims at pilgrimage camps will be offered to stay in two types of accommodation. One accommodation (tent) is provided with the folding bed which costs around Rs 200 per night and another accommodation without folding bed is Rs 100 per night. These camps are in the form of fabric tents where family of 4 to 8 members can easily be accommodated. The pilgrims must not worry about the hygiene at these camps because the government authorities have made proper arrangements of plastic booth toilets behind the camps. Regular cleaning process is also carried by the members to keep the surroundings neat and organized.
Accommodation at Baltal: The pilgrims who are coming via Srinagar-Sonmarg en route to Baltal have to stay at Baltal pilgrimage camp. These tent house camps at Baltal are more spacious than the later once found at Pahalgam. The aspiring pilgrims can avail the accommodation on per night basis at the price tag of Rs 300-500. The Baltal route is shorter and it is recommended to book these tents in advance while on a Amarnath Temple Tour. The pilgrims after reaching halfway to Gufa ki Nadi, a few minutes walk ahead will lead to the accommodation camps charging Rs 500 for one night. These camps are owned by Muslim residents who take care of every comfort and needs of the pilgrims. The hot water buckets at these camps are priced between Rs 20 to 40 per person. At Gufa Ki Nadi, the devotees can also buy ‘prasadam’ which is offered to the ice lingam at Amarnath cave.
To avoid any chaos during the journey from Pahalgam to Chandanwari, the pilgrims are advised to book hotels in Chandanwari or near by area. By booking hotels around Amarnath shrine in advance, the pilgrims would not face any commutation problem.
